Vernon Geuder

Vernon M. Geuder, 96, of Longwood, FL died peacefully in his sleep February 1, 2020.

Mr. Geuder was the son of Otto and Jessie Geuder of Waukon. He was born April 3, 1923 in Cook County, Chicago, IL. He attended Waukon schools and in 1940 graduated from Waukon High School. He served as a TBM pilot in World War II.

March 30, 1948, he married the love of his life, Marilyn Herman, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waukon. Mr. Geuder graduated from UNI in 1951, and was a teacher and coach in Iowa for nine years before moving to Virginia, where he taught for 17 years in the Fairfax County schools. He touched many young lives and is being remembered by former students with love, admiration and respect, as a positive guiding light in their lives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Eunice Geuder Barley; and his beloved wife of 70 years, Marilyn Herman Geuder.

Left to cherish and honor his memory are his six children: Glen Geuder and his wife Lynn, Jeanne Geuder Crist and her husband Jimmy, Jeff Geuder and his wife Patty, Susan Geuder Braun, Nancy Geuder Butts and her husband Bob, and Jay Geuder; and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was so very proud of them all, and they adored him. They are eternally grateful for the wisdom he shared and the unconditional love he gave so freely. He is remembered for his love of life, his delightful sense of humor and sense of fun, his great love of sports, his love of music and dancing, his empathy and kindness, and most of all for the deep and abiding love he had for his wife and the family they raised together.

A former student wrote, “The world has lost a true champion.”
