Keith Kerr

Keith Kerr, 89, of Postville died Monday, February 17, 2020 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN. Funeral service was held February 22 at Community Presbyterian Church in Postville with Rev. Kate Rupert as the officiant. Burial with Military Rites followed at Postville Cemetery, Postville.

Charles Keith was born January 31, 1931 to Kenneth Joel and Joyce Mae (Turner) Kerr on the Dale Delight Farm on Henderson Prairie in Fayette County. He graduated from Postville High School in 1948. Keith proudly served in Korea as part of the United States Army from September 1952 to August 1954.

Keith was united in marriage with Verta Maxine Moose September 1, 1957 at Community Presbyterian Church in Postville. Three children were born to this union. Keith was a fifth generation farmer on the family farm. He was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church, member and board member of many dairy organizations, and a member of Iowa Flying Farmers and International Flying Farmers. He was a member of the Postville American Legion Arthur F. Brandt Post 518 for over 60 years and went on the Honor Flight from Dubuque to Washington D.C.

Keith built a 1/6 scale model of a 65 hp Case steam engine and a 1/6 scale Case 1923 hay press (baler). Keith and Verta displayed these models at many steam engine shows in the Midwest. He enjoyed making homemade ice cream with the White Mountain ice cream maker he restored.

Keith is survived by his wife, Verta Kerr of Postville; three children, Cindy (Dick) Berns of Postville, Scott (Sherri) Kerr of Monona and K.J. Kerr (Donna) of Waukon; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren: Stacy (Cory) Miner with Regan, Dylan, Karsyn and Maren Miner, Becky (Zach) Steffans, Kristi Kerr, Kelli Kerr, Devian (Wade Lenth) Kerr with Piper and Kooper Lenth, Paige (Kevin Durnan) Kerr with Stella and Arlo Durnan, Nikki Dotzler with Miciah and Dexter Dotzler, Tiffany (Charles) Ghegan with Frankie, Sophie and Carmine Ghegan, and Derek (Rachel Berns) Dotzler with Gage Dotzler; one granddaughter-in-law, Bridget Berns; one sister, Geri Meyerhoff; one sister-in-law, Norma Kerr; and many nieces and nephews.

Keith was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Joyce Kerr; a grandson, Bradley Berns; one brother, Donald Kerr; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy and Gilbert Livingood, Marjorie and Ed Hamme, and Peggy and John Hart; a brother-in-law, Willard Meyerhoff; and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ednah (Moose) and Gilbert “JR” Wiethorn.

 Memorials, in memory of Keith, may be given to an organization of your choice in your community. Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Postville assisted the family with arrangements.
