Letter to the Editor: A letter from the EACSD Superintendent

To the Editor:

Dear Kee Hawk Community,

I am impressed with the Kee Hawk Community in Lansing and New Albin and surrounding rural areas as we battle the COVID-19 crisis. It is heartwarming to see the individuals and organizations that have helped out with this situation, and I am grateful to see and experience this outpouring.

Eastern Allamakee Community Schools will continue to communicate with our families. We will provide extensive voluntary educational enrichment opportunities that are available to students during the duration of the closure, and we strongly encourage all students to take advantage of these.

We know that many of our parents are critical care providers and essential workers; and many of these same parents have young children to care for. We want to provide high-quality resources, should parents choose to have their student engage in learning opportunities and enrichment.

Our teachers have been diligently reaching out to students and will continue to do so. Our Eastern Allamakee teaching staff will provide students with various educational opportunities, some of which are online, and some of which may not be. We also have materials on emotional health and wellness. Please feel free to reach out to us with your needs - child or adult, in school or out, from here or not from here. We intend to do everything we can, as much as we can, whenever we can.

This virus is very challenging, and some of us may have to deal with it directly.  We will try to make lemons into lemonade as we can at this time, and we will use every opportunity to unite us and make us stronger on the other side. As the situation continues to progress, the school district will keep parents and students informed. We wish for everyone to stay safe and follow the guidelines provided by the Department of Health.
