Earth Day observed April 22 - ATV/UTV Club cleans Allamakee County ditches ...
The Allamakee County ATV/UTV Club conducted a countywide clean-up of roadside ditch areas as a means to give back to the county community that has been so supportive of the Club’s efforts. The clean-up event spanned two days, Friday and Saturday, April 10 and 11, and resulted in two large dump trailers and one dump truck being filled with a variety of discarded garbage and other items, as well as beverage cans and bottles, in addition to several pick-up loads of discarded tires (as pictured below). More than 300 combined hours of clean-up time was volunteered in the effort, with many members of the Allamakee County ATV/UTV Club, and even some non-members, participating, all while keeping the current social distancing measures in mind for the safety and health of all involved.
The Club appreciates the efforts of Allamakee County Sheriff Clark Mellick, the Allamakee County Sheriff’s Department and Iowa Department of Natural Resources Officer Rylan Retallick at Yellow River State Forest in allowing the event to take place. Clark Tire Pros in Waukon took care of the tire disposal, with Allamakee County Recycling allowing disposal of the trash. Gramlich Services of Lansing donated the dump truck and one dump trailer that were both filled (as pictured above), with Dennis and Julie Herman of Waukon donating the use of a second dump trailer also filled. Club President Beau Bennett also acknowledged Sportsman’s Club in Rossville for providing refreshments and food for some of the club members who were cleaning ditches, Village Farm and Home in Waukon for the supplies used in the clean-up effort, and Audrey Peterson and Peterson Auto Repair for arranging the donation of the cans to Waukon Redemption Center in support of the Center’s currently closed status by government proclamation.
