Gary Bahr

Gary A. Bahr, 74, of Waukon died Monday, May 4, 2020 at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, WI. Graveside services were held Thursday, May 7 at Oakland Cemetery in Waukon. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon assisted with arrangements. Condolences can be sent to Jason Bahr at 924 Second Street NW, Waukon, IA 52172.

Gary Allen Bahr was born March 1, 1946 in Waukon, the son of Charles “Chic” and Helen (Miller) Bahr. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon and graduated from Waukon High School in 1964. In 1967, Gary served in the U.S. Army and then was discharged to the National Guard.

May 14, 1966, he married Carol Ann Moen at Glenwood Lutheran Church in rural Decorah. Gary farmed in Ludlow Township for several years and drove grain truck for several ag businesses in the Waukon area. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon.

Gary was an avid Chicago Cubs, Green Bay Packers and Iowa Hawkeye fan. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and watching all kinds of sports on TV, especially NASCAR and golf.

Survivors include his children: Jennifer Bahr Kugel and Jason (Melissa) Bahr, both of Waukon, and Jeffrey Bahr of Onalaska, WI; five granddaughters: Hope, Alexis and Alivia Bahr, Hayley Miller and Willow Kaiser; two sisters: Jeanne (Peter) Pauly of Bellevue and Lori (Carl) Stevenson of Waukon; a brother, Stan (Linda) Bahr of Caledonia, MN; two sisters-in-law: Deloris Vlasek of Cedar Rapids and Darlene (Gordon) Kaeser of Waukon; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carol, who died April 13, 2020; his father- and mother-in-law, Carl and Marian Moen; a sister-in-law and her husband, Ileen (Louis) Wedo; three brothers-in-law: Harlan and James Moen, and Edward Vlasek; and a nephew, Mark Kaeser.
