Mary Cook

Mary “Edna” Wilson Cook passed away Friday, May 22 at the Good Samaritan Society Nursing Home in Waukon after a brief illness. Graveside services will be held June 21 at 2 p.m. at the Elkader Cemetery.

Edna was born and raised in Georgetown, SC July 5, 1927 to parents Covington and Rosa Lee (Lambert) Wilson. She met and married Faye A. Cook of Elkader, who was serving in the military there during WWII.

She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend who always had cookies, coffee and a warm welcome. The staff, nurses and caretakers at Good Samaritan Society loved her smiles, wit and “southern charm”.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, James and John Wilson; her husband, Faye Cook; and her great-grandson, Jonathan McGirt. Edna is survived by her children: Wanda (Bob) Lacy of Guttenberg, Linda (Jim) Adam of Waukon, Mike (Cindy) Cook of Elkader, Kim Cook of Cedar Rapids and Jody Cook of Elkader. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Barbara Jones of Georgetown, SC.

The family extends its heartfelt thanks for the care, attention and love she received at Good Samaritan Society, and to Dr. David Schwartz for attending to her medical care.
