Allamakee County residents invited to take part in Bible Reading Marathon through new format

Allamakee County will participate in the annual Iowa Bible Reading Marathon this year, 2020, but under a bit of a different format due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds has signed the 2020 Iowa Reading Marathon Proclamation, endorsing this event statewide.
The goal of the marathon each year is to read the bible from Genesis to Revelation over the entire state of Iowa. All Allamakee County residents are encouraged and welcome to take part.

Because of the current COVID-19 situation, the Allamakee County marathon will not take place in a specific physical setting as in years past, but will follow some new guidelines.

The bible has been divided into smaller segments that take approximately 30 minutes to read. Allamakee County residents who are interested in reading portions of the Bible for this event are asked to sign up in one of two ways:
1. SignUp Genius website - Follow these four steps to participate:
1) Go to and follow sign-up directions for a 30-minute segment of scripture.
2) After clicking on a scripture of choice, scroll to the bottom of the list of choices (below Revelations 12-22) and click on “Submit and Sign Up.”
3) Type in name and email address on the next screen when it pops up.
4) Click on “Sign Up Now” at the bottom.

A confirmation email will be sent to the email inbox of the individual who signed up. Those who wish to cancel or change their sign-up for any reason will be able to do that through the email confirmation they receive.

Those who prefer may text or call 563-217-9814 to request a 30-minute segment of scripture to read. This Bible Reading Marathon phone number will be operational Monday-Friday, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. from now through July 14 of this year.

Additional information for those participating:
• Read the scripture(s) chosen in their entirety and out loud.
• Participants may begin to read their chosen segments immediately, completing them at their convenience, wherever and with whomever they choose.
• Participants are encouraged to read more than one 30-minute segment if they wish.

The SignUpGenius website and Bible Reading Marathon phone number will be operational through July 14 of this year at 7 p.m. The 2020 Allamakee County Bible Reading Marathon will end on that date and time.

The key scripture verse for the 2020 Iowa Bible Reading Marathon is 2 Chronicles 7:14 which says, “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and will turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

“Thank you in advance for being a part of the 2020 Iowa Bible Reading Marathon and helping to cover Allamakee County and our state of Iowa with the Word of God,” shared this year’s event organizers, Becky Kramer, Robin Oden and Betty Larsen. “One by one and collectively, we can advance the Kingdom of God by honoring and declaring ‘the Word of God that it may grow mightily and prevail’ (Acts 19:20).”
