Marjean Frances Fahey was born December 24, 1942 in Pocahontas, the daughter of Francis Charles and Marjorie Ann (Stoulil) Schott. In 1959, as a teenager, Marjean and her family moved to Waukon, where she attended St. Patrick’s High School.

November 26, 1960, she married Jim Fahey at St. Patrick Catholic Church. They lived in Waukon and together owned and operated the Shamrock Inn for many years; later, they divorced. For nearly 50 years, Marjean was a daycare provider, playing an important role in the lives of many children and caring for up to three generations of families.

She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon. In her younger years, Marjean enjoyed horseback riding, boating, and playing cards and pool. She liked being outside, camping, and going for car rides with her longtime partner, Jack. She loved sports and liked attending her son Jeremy’s and later her grandchildren’s activities; Marjean was a diehard Iowa Hawkeyes fan and if there was a game being played, the TV needed to be on. In her later years, she looked forward to Saturday morning coffee with her sons’ and daughters’ families and enjoyed going out with her ladies.

Marjean was admired by many for the strength she showed while enduring the pain of early onset rheumatoid arthritis. She refused to give up and lived as independently as she could to the end.

Marjean is survived by her children: Teri (Randy) Kruger, Patricia (Brad Winters) Kammeyer and Brenda (Larre) Leiran, all of Waukon, Brian (Margaret) Fahey of Austin, TX, Rebecca (Jeff) Hawes and Brandon (Katie) Fahey, both of Waukon, and Jeremy (Jennifer) Fahey of Decorah; 21 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren with five more arriving in the next six months; two sisters: Dee (Craig “Gravy”) Ford of Waukon and Karen (Bob) Wagner of Belvidere, IL; a brother-in-law, Doug Haas of Waukon; and her nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Larry “Butch” Schott; her sister, Joyce Haas; and her partner, Jack Peyton.

Honorary casketbearers are Marjean’s granddaughters: Kieran Walsh, Jessica Becker, Chelsie Kammeyer, Brittany Horns, Natasha Schultz, Ciara Snitker, and Karlie, Madilyn, Olivia and Sophia Fahey. Casketbearers are her grandsons: Cody and Carter Kammeyer, Brooks and Brady Kruger, Caleb and Brendan Leiran, Dylan and Benton Fahey, Dakota Hawes, and Kasey and Asher Fahey.
