Walter N. Johnson

Walter N. Johnson, 82, of Waukon died Monday, August 17, 2020 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Family funeral services were held Saturday, August 22 at Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon with Pastor Ken Kimball officiating. Burial was at Lansing Ridge Cemetery, rural Lansing. Walter Norbert Johnson was born April 28, 1938 in rural Churchtown, the son of Norris and Esther (Iseli) Johnson. He attended Lycurgus country school and graduated from Waukon High School in 1957. After graduating from high school, he worked at the milk plant in Cresco for two years.

September 30, 1961, he married Lorraine Boyd and they had three children: Kristy, Kevin and Michael. Walter farmed for his grandma and other farmers in the area before he and Lorraine bought their own farm near Churchtown. He also ran the Landmark from 1975-1976, and worked at Northern Engraving, City Club, Lansing Furniture and Our Tara Nursery.

Walter enjoyed music, playing his accordion for dances, special occasions, parades, and singing for weddings and funerals. He also enjoyed dancing, family gatherings, playing cards, working in his garden, and working puzzles while at the Good Samaritan Society.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Lorraine, of Waukon; his children: Kristy (Don) Bollman of Waterville, Kevin (Cindy) Johnson of Waukon and Michael Johnson of Abbottsford, WI; six grandchildren: Jason Bollman, Casey (Brad) Moen, Cody Bollman, Jake Bollman, and Sierra and Brent Johnson; six great-grandchildren: Taylor and Lauryn Howard, Brooklyn Moen, and Danielle, Hunter and Karter Bollman; two step-grandchildren, Abbie Gregory and Amber Udelhoven; two step-great-grandchildren, Brad and Blake Gregory; three step-sisters: Kathleen Saewert of Boyd, WI, and Peggy Slaughter and Pam Croyle, both of Waukon; one step-brother, John Kelly of Spring Grove, IL; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Marie Johnson; his step-sister, Theresa Leikvold; his father- and mother-in-law, John and Ermine Boyd; and his brother-in-law, Bill Boyd.

Honorary casketbearers were Don Aldrich, Harvey Estebo, John and Robert Iseli, Ron Schultz and Jerry Troendle. Casketbearers were Jason, Cody and Jake Bollman, Duane Estebo, Gary Iseli, Casey and Brad Moen, and Sierra and Brent Johnson.
