Shelby Jean Weber

Shelby Jean Weber, 78, of Waukon, formerly of Lansing, died Saturday, August 29, 2020 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. A private family service will be at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon with Fr. John Moser officiating. Burial of ashes will be at Mays Prairie Cemetery, rural Lansing. Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon is handling arrangements.

Shelby Jean Weber was born January 19, 1942 in De Soto, WI, the daughter of Howard and Clara (Stalsburg) Alderman. She attended De Soto schools, and June 28, 1958, Shelby Jean married Richard J. Weber, Sr. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in De Soto. They farmed and raised their family on Mays Prairie, rural Lansing. In 1979,

Shelby Jean completed her GED and CNA courses and started working at Thornton Manor in Lansing, where she worked for 31 years before retiring.

Dick and Shelby Jean loved to square dance. She also enjoyed doing any type of crafts and loved to crochet and sew and make items for her grandchildren. Shelby Jean raised a large garden and did a lot of canning and freezing throughout the years, from corn to peaches to stacks of apple pies kept in the freezer. An animal lover, she particularly adored her pet cats. Shelby Jean loved her grandchildren and always wanted to be kept up to date on their activities.

Shelby Jean is survived by four children: Randy (Karen) Weber of New Albin, Sally (Pat) O’Neill of Harpers Ferry, Chris (Danette) Weber of Dubuque and Melanie (Ross) Krambeer of Lansing; her daughter-in-law, Kathy Welsh of Lansing; 12 grandchildren: Jeremy and Jason Weber, Brian and Brandon O’Neill, Jenny McCullick and Nick Weber, Josh, Joseph and Jared Weber, Adam Hammond, Alivia Henkel and Austin Krambeer; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Genieva “Jan” Hyche of Alabama; a sister-in-law, Carol Alderman of Viroqua, WI; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dick, in 2008; a son, Richard, Jr., in 2017; a brother, Harland, in 2020; and her sisters, Evelyn, Lila, Helen and Glida.
