Kee football team begins 2020 campaign with 54-12 triumph at Central

The 2020 season got off to a convincing start for the Kee football team, as the Hawks dominated both sides of the line of scrimmage early on the way to a 38-0 halftime lead and eventual 54-12 season-opening victory at Central Elkader Friday, August 28. That dominance could have, perhaps, been even greater if not for a handful of hiccups one might expect for a first game of the season but that Kee football coach Chad Winters says certainly need to be addressed in the grand scheme of things.

“It was a great feeling to get back to somewhat normal,” Coach Winters said of his charges finally getting to take to the gridiron. “The kids understand that not everyone has the opportunity that we have. They want to make the most of it and enjoy it while doing it. We did a great job of controlling the line of scrimmage. We executed really well at times, but have quite a few things to clean up. We had the opportunity to completely put the game away in the first half but put the ball on the ground inside the 10-yard line going in to score three different times. Toss in an interception in the second half and we had four turnovers; that just won’t cut it. We have to get that cleaned up, along with a couple other things.”

Kee’s defense limited the host Warriors to just 100 total yards of offense, including just 11 yards through the air, where the Hawks snatched away three interceptions to further limit Central’s effort, including one of those for a “pick-six” tally. The Kee gridders racked up 264 yards of offense, including 174 on the ground, and the Hawk special teams ended up blocking three punts and returned another one of those halts for a touchdown to further Kee’s all-around effort in the victory.
