The 29th annual Christmas Fantasy, sponsored each year by the Veterans Memorial Health Care Foundation, will hold a Silent Auction event only this year due to the Coronavirus pandemic.  The “Big C” Silent Auction will offer nearly 70 items within local businesses in Waukon to promote ‘shopping locally’ this holiday season. These auction items will not only offer a variety of Christmas gifts for sale locally, but encourage shoppers to do more local holiday shopping in safe settings, hopefully decreasing the amount of out-of-town shopping and creating more local store traffic, helping the local businesses.

At this time, Silent Auction donations will all be displayed at the following businesses and ready for bid by Monday, November 23; Cunningham Hardware, Epic Wear, Hartig Drug, Howards Home Furnishings, Kerndt Brothers Bank, Krambeer Barber Shop, MOSAIC, Say Now, Teslow’s Formal Wear, Upper Iowa Insurance, Waukon Chamber of Commerce and Allamakee Economic Development, Waukon State Bank and WW Homestead Dairy. All bidding will cease Monday, December 7, the night of the Holiday Lights Parade in downtown Waukon. Shoppers are invited to stop back at these businesses and increase their bids anytime over the course of those two weeks.

Veterans Memorial Hospital will be posting the silent auction displays at each of these locations on its own website at www.veteransmemorialhospital.com and also on the Veterans Memorial Hospital Facebook page. All the details for each display will be included plus the hours these businesses are open for bidding. All bids must be placed in person. Bids cannot be taken over the phone by calling the business location, but again bidders are welcome to stop back in person to increase their bids.

Members of the Veterans Memorial Health Care Foundation report this was not an easy decision to downsize the event this year since the annual Christmas Fantasy is always such a popular event. They look forward to holding the full event again next year.
