Kermit Martin

Kermit G. Martin, 78, of Monona, formerly of Waterville, went to be with the Lord Friday, November 27, 2020 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 1 at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon with Rev. Cathy Jurgens officiating. Burial was at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon.

Kermit George Martin was born February 5, 1942 in Waukon, the son of Edward and Florence (Dresselhaus) Martin. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Luke’s United Church of Christ in Eitzen, MN, attended Eitzen Elementary School and graduated from Waukon High School in 1960. While in high school, Kermit started working at Hager’s Grocery Store in Waukon. After high school he went to work at Amana Refrigeration in Cedar Rapids. He served in the Army Reserves from 1964-1969.

October 20, 1979, he married Dianne Gordon at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon. In 1970, Kermit went to work at Northern Engraving in Waukon, retiring in 2008. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ.

Kermit loved spending time with his daughters and grandchildren. Kermit also enjoyed woodworking and would spend hours in his workshop making different wood projects. He enjoyed deer hunting, antiques, auctions, his collection of guns, his 1957 Chevy and a 1932 Chevy coupe - they were his pride and joy. When he would see other people driving older cars, he would tell them, “nice rig”. Kermit was a friend to everyone.

Survivors include his daughters: Jessica (John) Winkler of Monona and Krystal (Doug) Hexamer of DeSoto, IL; four grandchildren: Ava, Ashton, Karsen and Karter; one brother, Walter (Peggy) Martin of Lansing; two sisters: Joyce Headington of Decorah and Sharon (Randy) Dishinger of Waterloo; a sister-in-law, Carol Martin of Waukon; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; two grandsons, Kaden and Kai Hexamer; a brother, Lloyd Martin; a sister, Rosalie Ehde; and two brothers-in-law, Robert Headington and Gelard Ehde.

Honorary casketbearers were Kermit’s grandchildren and Walter Martin. Casketbearers were John Winkler, Doug Hexamer, Dave, Kevin and Duane Martin, Rex Johanningmeier and Fred Gordon.
