Alfred Willard Olsen was born February 3, 1930 in Lansing, one of nine children of Berger and Jeanette (Johnson) Olsen. After school, he served in the United States Army from 1951-1953 and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. Raised in Lansing and a resident of Waukon, he loved the natural scenic beauty of the area and stayed here for his entire life.

April 10, 1970, he married Florence Mae (Weipert) Snitker in Caledonia, MN. Alfred was known for his carpentry skills and worked for many Allamakee County families, building and renovating homes. As a hobby in retirement, he used his carpentry skills to build bird houses, cabinetry and other woodworking projects. He and Florence enjoyed traveling and since Alfred loved country music, they made a special trip to Nashville, TN for their anniversary one year.

He is survived by his two step-children: Wayne (Hui Suk) Snitker of Tennessee and Carrie (Martin) Stilwell of Florida; six step-grandchildren: John, Linda and Jason Snitker, and Rachel, Philip and John Bush; and his siblings: Eleanor Thorpe of Cedar Rapids, Leroy (Shirley) Olsen of Marshalltown and Jim (Jan) Olsen of Lowden; and a sister-in-law, Charlette Olsen of Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Florence, who died in 2014; a step-daughter, Constance Snitker; his siblings: Mildred (Harold) Bechtel, Joseph (Arlene) Olsen, Elmer Olsen, Floyd (Judy) Olsen and Harvey Olsen; and a brother-in-law, Gene Thorpe.
