Dorothy McCormick

Dorothy A. McCormick, 96, of Harpers Ferry died Monday, December 7, 2020 at Crossing Rivers Health in Prairie du Chien, WI. Funeral services were held Friday, December 11 at St. Pius Cherry Mound Catholic Church in rural Harpers Ferry with Fr. Sean Smith and Fr. John Moser officiating. Burial was held in the church cemetery.

Dorothy A. McCormick was born June 2, 1924 in McGregor, the daughter of Otto and Lottie (McMillan) Duball. She graduated from McGregor High School in 1942 and then worked for the telephone company in McGregor. January 8, 1945, she married Emmett Joseph McCormick at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in McGregor. Dorothy and Emmett farmed the family farm in Fairview Township, rural Harpers Ferry, where they raised Holstein and Angus cattle, hogs and crops over the years.

Dorothy was a member of St. Pius Cherry Mound Catholic Church, where she was active in the Rosary Society. She was also active with the McGregor Historical Society. Dorothy loved being in the kitchen baking, cooking and reading recipe books. She always made sure to have a good meal and baked goods ready for anyone helping on the farm or stopping by for a visit. Dorothy especially enjoyed playing cards with the Golden Girls and looked forward to her monthly get-togethers with her friends, Kay, Linda and Mary.

Survivors include her children: Don (Sharyn) McCormick, Tom (Beth) McCormick and Judy (special friend Dennis) Jones, all of Harpers Ferry; seven grandchildren: Janelle (Paul) Snitker, Jolyn (Kurt) Philipp, Rebecca (Tony) Seitz, Korine (Kenny) Schmeichel, Kendrin (Ross) Geerdes, Kyle (Jennifer) McCormick and Kale (Kenzie) McCormick; 12 great-grandchildren: Cierra and Jaydon Snitker, Brenner and Ashlyn Latham, McKynlee Philipp, Ashlyn Seitz, Lottie and Breckin Schmeichel, Sullivan and Wilder Geerdes, Ryker McCormick and Shaylee McCormick.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Emmett, who died in 1999; a great-grandson, Austyn Seitz, who died in 2015; and two brothers, Harold and Raymond Duball.

Honorary casketbearers were Dorothy’s grandchildren. Casketbearers were Kyle McCormick, Kale McCormick, Jim McCormick, Mike McCormick, Kevin McCormick, Rick Welper and Steve Welper.
