Paul Meier

Paul F. Meier, 58, of Waukon died Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Caledonia Rehab and Retirement in Caledonia, MN. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 6 at the First Baptist Church in Waukon with Rev. Duane Smith officiating. Memorials may be made to the family for later designation.

Paul Frederick, son of James and Alaine (Herman) Meier, was born September 1, 1962 in Waukon. He was baptized and confirmed in the Baptist Faith. Paul received his education in the Waukon Schools and would later receive his G.E.D. while serving in the United States Army Reserves.

Paul served in the United States Army Reserves, where he was trained in operating heavy equipment. He was a member of the IUOE 234 working as a heavy equipment operator for many years until his health no longer permitted.

Paul was a skilled marksman that enjoyed recreational shooting and hunting. He also enjoyed anything outdoors, whether it be moving lawn or working on old tractors. He also was a very social person that enjoyed being with friends and loved being a grandpa to Wren.

Paul is survived by his three children, Cody (Bob Praska) Hagen of Hawkeye, Dillon (Sara Powell) Meier of Monticello and Desirae Meier of Marion; his beloved granddaughter, Wren Meier; his sister, Sharilyn (Greg) Decker of Waukon; his niece, Bekka (Nick) Cappussi of Cedar Rapids; his nephew, Brandon Decker of Missouri; his aunts, Ruth (Larry) Orth of Waterloo and Judy Shogren; his special friends, Richard Loven, Mike Farley and Brenda A’Hearn; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to his maternal and paternal grandparents, he was preceded in death by his parents; and his uncle, Lavern Shogren.
