Waukon boys track team finishes fourth at Decorah Early Bird, wins Foster-Kiesau Relays at Postville in convincing fashion


Multiple event medals ... Waukon boys track senior Creed Welch makes his way down the homestretch leading the 400 meter dash at the Foster-Kiesau Relays in Postville Thursday, April 8. Welch won that 400 meter dash in a time of 52.68 seconds, and also won the long jump with a leap of 20’5”, finished second in the 200 meter dash in 22.83 seconds and joined forces with fellow senior John O’Neill and the junior pair of Pat Hennessy and Braxton Stewart to also win the 4x400 relay at the meet with a clocking of 3:42.89. The Waukon boys track team fit in another pair of meets this past week, traveling less than a half hour to compete in each of them. The Indians finished fourth in the Decorah Early Bird Invitational Monday, April 5 before literally running away with the team title at the Postville Invitational Thursday, April 8 by more than 60 team points.

The Indians were next scheduled to compete again at Decorah Monday, April 12 before competing at New Hampton Thursday, April 15. The track Tribe will then make yet another trip back to Decorah Monday, April 19 before hosting six other teams - Central Elkader, Crestwood, Decorah, New Hampton, Osage and Postville - in its own Indian Relays Friday, April 23, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
