Daniel W. Howe

Daniel W. Howe, 43, of Waukon died Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at his home. A public memorial service will be held Thursday, April 29 at 4 p.m. at the Frankville Fire Department with Pastor Lynn Noel officiating. Visitation will follow at the fire department until 7 p.m. Wearing of masks and social distancing is encouraged. A private family memorial service will also be held at Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon.

Daniel Wayne Howe was born June 16, 1977 in Waukon, the son of Wayne and Janice (Beisker) Howe. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, attended St. Patrick’s Catholic School and graduated from Waukon High School in 1995. Dan served in the U.S. Army Reserves with active duty at Guantanamo Bay as a military policeman.

After the service, he attended the police academy in Des Moines and worked as a policeman for several departments in Iowa. Dan moved back to the Waukon area and drove semi for his brother, Matt, and several other trucking companies in the area. He also worked for a security company out of La Crosse, WI, and then was the security supervisor at the Casino Queen boat in Marquette.

June 7, 2015, he married Linsey Effinger in Waukon.

Dan was a past member of the fire departments in Monticello (2001-03) and Maynard (2004-08) and had been a member of the Frankville Fire Department since 2013, where he held various positions and was currently vice president. Dan was a field instructor for the Iowa Fire Service Training Bureau, training many firemen who he often had close relationships with.

Dan was very passionate about his work with the trainees and fire departments and received several certificates. For the past few years as well, he was a salesman for Clarey’s Safety Equipment based out of Rochester, MN, covering northeast Iowa and southern Wisconsin.

Survivors include his wife, Linsey, of Waukon; children Hunter and Hailie Hanson and Easton Howe, all of Waukon; his parents, Wayne and Jan Howe of Waukon; his siblings: Angela (Ron) Cooper of Lansing, Becky (Brad) Decker of Luana, John Howe of Waukon and Zach (Katie Kotz) Howe of Dubuque; his sister-in-law, Shelly Howe of Waukon; his brother Tom’s partner, Callie Mescher, of Dubuque; his grandmother, Arlene Beisker of Waukon; his father- and mother-in-law, Todd and Ellen Effinger of Viroqua, WI; two sisters-in-law, Jami (Harley) Zabel of Eastman, WI and Shaina Effinger of Galena, IL; two brothers-in-law, Dustin (Rachel) Effinger of Viroqua, WI and Dane Effinger of La Crosse, WI; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by two brothers, Matt Howe and Tom Howe; and his grandparents, Charles and Lorna Howe and John Beisker.
