Waukon girls track team finishes second at own Indian Relays, edges out team title at MFL/MarMac Invitational by single point


Double champion in final home meet ... Waukon girls track senior Annika Headington launches a discus toss in the Indians’ own Indian Relays home invitational Tuesday, April 27. In the final home meet of her high school career, Headington claimed two of the Tribe’s three event wins at the meet, including a winning toss of 114’2” in the discus and a shot put effort of 41’10” that also claimed gold in that event. Headington also teamed up with the freshman pair of Kaitlyn Krambeer and Breckan Stewart, along with sophomore Maggie Criswell, in running to a third-place finish in the 4x200 relay with a clocking of 1:56.44. The Waukon girls track team was able to pull off double duty this past week, hosting its own home invitational before pulling out a meet win in Monona. The Lady Indians finished fifth in the seven-team field of their own Indian Relays Tuesday, April 27 before edging out Central Elkader by a single point at the MFL/MarMac Invitational just two days later, Thursday, April 29.

The Lady Indians were next scheduled to compete Monday, May 3 at Edgewood-Colesburg but had that meet canceled due to rain. They will now compete in the Northeast Iowa Conference Meet Thursday, May 6 at Decorah. The track Tribe will then prepare for its Thursday, May 13 Class 2A State Qualifying Meet at Jesup, details of which can be found in the May 5, 2021 print edition and e-edition of The Standard.
