In-person programs to resume July 1 at Robey Memorial Library

Beginning July 1, Robey Memorial Library in Waukon will return to its normal program and event calendar that has been interrupted for the past year-plus by the COVID-19 pandemic. This means the return of programs like Story Time, Tech Tutor and Chess Club. Those who have never been to a library program are especially invited to see what the library has to offer in the following returning programs:

Tech Tutor - Technology help session Thursdays from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Stop in for basic help with computers, gadgets and popular software programs like Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and more.

Chess Club - Mondays from 3-6 p.m. through the month of November. Children eight and under must be accompanied by a responsible adult. All skill levels are welcome. Come to learn or just to play with a new opponent.

Story Time/Story Time with Ross - Tuesdays from 10:30-11 a.m. Enjoy storytelling, hands-on learning and interactive story boards. The second Tuesday of the month, learn about local animals and their habitat along with real life materials with Ross Geerdes, Naturalist with Allamakee County Conservation.

Stay & Play - The first Tuesday of the month from 11-11:30 a.m. following Story Time. Young participants build social skills through interactive and collaborative play.

Thursday Night Book Club - The third Thursday monthly at 6 p.m. All are welcome, including those interested in discussing the books they read with other readers, those interested in meeting new people, those looking for a new author or genre to read but not quite ready to jump all in, or those at a loss for what to read next. For those who cannot attend in person, Robey Memorial Library offers an online link to meet virtually with Book Club.

Discussions upcoming include: July 15 - Book from your bookstack; August 19 - Book set in another country; September 16 - Lady Clementine by Marie Benedict; October 21 - Western; November 18 - Bestseller; and December 16 - Short Story or Novella.

Learn to play Boss Monster, a game inspired by classic video games that challenges players to become a villain, build a dungeon, lure adventurers and destroy them. A variety of games are available for ages preschool through adult, including: Apples to Apples; Backgammon; Boss Monster; Candyland; Chess; Connect Four; Dixit; Elephant’s Trunk; Exploding Kittens; Gloom; Go; Gotcha!; In a Pickle; Jenga; Monopoly: Electronic Banking; Number Chase; The Oregon Trail: Card Game; Pandemic; Phase 10 Twist; Qwirkle; Rummikub; Seismic; Settlers of Catan; Skip-Bo; Takenoko; Yeti, Set, Go!; Zombie Dice; and more.

If that’s not enough, those attending can bring their own games and meet new players. Gamers are welcome to bring snacks. Children age eight and under must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Afternoon with Ross - Held the fourth Tuesday of the month from 3:30-4:15 p.m., join Allamakee County Conservation Naturalist Ross Geerdes as he shares an informative look, with hands-on demonstrations, at local wild life, highlighting their behavior and habitat.
