Jane Schoh

Jane Schoh, 88, of Waukon, formerly of Dorchester, died Thursday, June 24, 2021 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Memorial services were held Monday, June 28 at Mt. Hope Presbyterian Church in rural New Albin with Pastor Paul Burgess officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Veterans Memorial Hospital Health Care Foundation or to Mt. Hope Cemetery. Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon assisted with arrangements.

Emma Jane Schoh was born January 13, 1933 at Hall’s Maternity Hospital in Waukon, the daughter of Earl and Myrtle (Sadler) Beardmore. She was baptized October 22, 1933 by Pastor H. J. Noeding at Mt. Hope Presbyterian Church in rural New Albin and confirmed on Confirmation Sunday, April 14, 1946 by Pastor Calvin Willemssen at Mt. Hope. Jane attended English Bench grade school in rural Dorchester and graduated as salutatorian of her class from Waukon High School in 1951.

September 2, 1951, Jane married Leon Earl Schoh at Mt. Hope Presbyterian Church and they farmed and raised their family on English Bench. In 1991, upon retirement, they moved to Waukon.

Jane enjoyed music and singing, and always looked forward to harmonizing with her sisters, Mae and Ruby. When her children were younger, she gave piano lessons at her home for the children of family and friends in the neighborhood; Jane played the organ for numerous weddings at Mt. Hope. She also at one time sang in the Farm Bureau Chorus and the St. Luke’s Church Choir and directed the St. Luke’s junior choir in Eitzen, MN.

She was a member of the Peppy Pals 4-H Club and received the honor of being named “Iowa’s Best Groomed 4-H Girl” in 1950 at the Ames 4-H convention. After marriage, Jane served as the club’s co-leader. In later years, Jane became interested in genealogy and prepared family history books for her relatives, relying on her computer to do her searching.

Jane is survived by her four children: Gregg Schoh of Lakeside, MT, Nancy Schoh and Diane (Rod) Nichols, both of rural Dorchester, and Robin Schoh of Ft. Collins, CO; four grandchildren: Kristin (Dan) Burg Muszalski, Steven (Amanda) Burg, Leah (Aaron Irish) Nichols and Tara Nichols; five great-grandchildren: Leon, Owen and Kashton Burg, and Nolan and Maren Muszalski; her sister, Ruby Herman of Waukon; her sisters-in-law: Ruby Schoh and Joyce (Don) Bakke, both of Waukon, and Lila (Leo) Troendle of Lansing; her brother-in-law, Joseph (Patricia) Schoh of Eitzen, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leon, in 2020; an infant son, Gary; a brother, Glenn (Rae) Beardmore; her sisters, Helen (Delton) Mohwinkle and Mae (Bill) Gustin; her brothers-in-law, Nyles Herman, Donald (Annette) Schoh and Gaylord Schoh; and her sister-in-law, Janet (Floyd) Oseth.

Her grandchildren served as urn bearers. Online condolences may be left at www.martinfunerals.com.
