Drew Gaunitz

Drew C. Gaunitz, 22, of Lansing died Sunday, July 4, 2021 in rural Lansing as a result of injuries sustained in a UTV accident. Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 13 at United Methodist Church in Lansing with Pastor Sedar Shako officiating.

Drew Cody Gaunitz was born February 25, 1999 in Waukon, the son of Randy James and Kristy Lea (Koenig) Gaunitz. He was baptized and confirmed at United Methodist Church in Lansing, attended Waterville Elementary School through sixth grade and graduated from Waukon High School in 2017. Drew helped on the family farm in Lafayette Township, rural Lansing, raising beef cows and growing crops; he also worked for Nathan Welch Excavating in Monona.

Drew was a member at United Methodist Church in Lansing. He enjoyed playing co-ed softball and in pool leagues for the Winchester Bar and Grill in Waterville. Drew’s pride and joy were his side-by-side, his Ford Bronco and his truck. He and his brothers enjoyed truck pulling in the Street class in Lansing and Waukon with his 2006 Ford F350 single wheel. Drew had a heart of gold and would help anyone out that needed it, especially if he could pull a Chevy or Dodge out of a ditch with his Ford!

Survivors include his parents, Randy and Kristy Gaunitz of Lansing; his siblings: Lydia Gaunitz of Waukon and Dennis (Vanessa Loera) Gaunitz and Shay Gaunitz, both of Lansing; his grandmother, Iva Gaunitz of Lansing; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Richard “Dick” Gaunitz and Dennis and Dorothea Koenig.

The Class of 2017 served as honorary casketbearers. Casketbearers were Brooks Mathis, James Fossum, Jake Manning, Alex Brink, Trevor Bublitz, Nathan Benzing, Riley Wyninger and Tucker Colsch. Online condolences may be left at www.martinfunerals.com.
