The Kee softball team both started and ended its Class 1A postseason tournament trail this past week with two games played that each ended with final scores of 4-3. The Lady Hawks ended up being on each side of those 4-3 results to have their 2021 softball campaign brought to a close in the semifinal round of Class 1A regional tournament play.

The first of those 4-3 final results came in Kee’s first regional tournament game Wednesday, July 7 at home against Edgewood-Colesburg, with the Hawks rebounding from a 3-2 deficit to score the game’s winning run on the final play of the contest for a 4-3 Lady Hawk victory. That win in the quarterfinal round advanced Kee to the regional tournament semifinals at North Butler Friday, July 9, where the Hawks battled back from a 3-0 deficit but ultimately came out on the other end of another 4-3 result to have their season brought to a close.

That split of their two regional tournament games wrapped up the Lady Hawks’ 2021 season at a 17-16 overall record that includes a mark of 14-2 against Upper Iowa Conference foes, tying Turkey Valley for this season’s best UIC record and claiming a share of the UIC season championship for the first time since the 2018 season. North Butler’s semifinal round victory over the Hawks advanced them to the Monday, July 12 regional finals at and against 12th-rated Mason City Newman, a game North Butler won, 5-4, to advance to this year’s Class 1A State Tournament.
