The Waukon baseball team both ended its regular season and opened its postseason this past week, both of those games ending in 10-0 results in five innings and the diamond Tribe ending up on each end of that results spectrum. The Indians brought their regular season to a close with a 10-0 loss to West Delaware in five innings Tuesday, July 6 in a game played at the Mt. Mercy University baseball field in Cedar Rapids but reversed that fortune in opening Class 2A District 8 Tournament play with a 10-0 home win in five innings over Postville Saturday, July 10.

The week’s split leaves the Indians with a 14-15 season record that includes a final 6-12 mark in Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) play that places them fifth in the final NEIC standings. The first-round district win over Postville advanced the Indians to the District 8 semifinals at Jesup against Waterloo Columbus Tuesday, July 13, with that winner advancing to the Saturday, July 17 District 8 championship game to play against the winner of the Jesup vs. North Fayette Valley semifinals match-up. That District 8 Champion will then play in the Substate 4 championship game Tuesday, July 20 against either Dike-New Hartford, Union, Denver or Aplington-Parkersburg for the right to play in the Class 2A State Tournament in Carroll.
