Dorothy Klocke

Dorothy M. Klocke, 97, of Waukon died Thursday, August 5, 2021 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Monday, August 9 at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church in rural Postville with Karla Johnson officiating. Burial was at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Memorials may be made to Good Samaritan Society or Veterans Memorial Hospital, both in Waukon. Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon handled arrangements.

Dorothy Marie Klocke was born February 16, 1924 in Jefferson Township, rural Waukon, the daughter of Edward and Caroline (Wacker) Schoenthal. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon, attended Jefferson #1 country school, and graduated from Waukon High School.

December 10, 1944, she married Leo Klocke at the Zion United Church parsonage. After they were married, she and Leo both worked at Rath Packing Company in Waterloo for a short time. They moved back to the Waukon area and purchased a farm in Ludlow Township in 1947, where they farmed together until 1974, when they moved into Waukon. Dorothy then worked at the Town Theater and was a cook at the junior high school in Waukon.

She was a member of Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, where she was active in the women’s groups. Dorothy enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens, cooking and baking, and loved animals, especially cats and dogs. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and fishing with Leo and family. With the help of her family, she was able to live in her own home until June of this year; Dorothy enjoyed the family visits and outings.

Survivors include her children: Maxine Bloxham and her husband, Charles, of Waukon; David Klocke and his wife, Barbara, of Independence, MO; and Larry Klocke and his wife, Nancy, of Harpers Ferry; four grandchildren: Sara Lustberg and her husband, Wayne; Ben Klocke and his wife, Emily; Jason Bloxham and his wife, Janice; and Jenny Stegen and her husband, Lee; nine great-grandchildren: Spencer, Hannah, Zachary, Connor, Grace, Dylan, Vaughn, Eli and Aiden; and a brother, Curtis Schoenthal of Waukon.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo, who died in 2014; and an infant sister.
