Pamela Croyle

Pamela Susan Croyle, 65, of Waukon passed away July 29, 2021 in her home surrounded by her loving family. Pam was cremated through Iowa Cremation and there will be a Celebration of Life held Saturday, August 21 from 4-7 p.m. at the FreedomBank basement in Waukon. A potluck style meal will take place at 5:30 p.m.

Pamela Susan Croyle was born December 2, 1955 to Mark and Marie (Kelly) Croyle in Waukon. Pam raised her children on a farm in rural Lansing with her former husband, Dean (Beanzy) Schellhammer, until she moved to town in 2008.

Pam devoted her life to the service of others; providing care, meals and an ear to listen. She was well known for the beautiful flowers in her front yard and having the best pies in the county as she enjoyed spending her life cooking, baking and gardening. Pam began her career in food service 50-plus years ago, as many local community members may have, working for Wally Larson at the Model Café. She also worked with many other community restaurants, including The Landmark, Ozzie’s Fresh Cut Café, The Waukon Bakery, Casey’s General Store, The Waterville Store and The S&D Café, and she managed the 4-H Food Stand for many years.

When she wasn’t working and serving others, she could be found spending time with her family. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy.

She is survived by her children, Carol Smith (Mike Flynn) of Waukon, Bo Schellhammer of Eau Claire, WI and Kayla (Eric) Rowan of rural Lansing; her grandchildren, Michael Flynn (Nicole McGeough) of Harpers Ferry, Kailey Smith of Waukon, and Alexus, Sylus, Alea, Gabby and Anthony Rowan of rural Lansing; her granddog, Gizmo; her brother, John Kelly of Spring Grove, IL; her sister, Margaret (Peg) Slaughter of Waukon; her step-sister-in-law, Lorraine Johnson of Waukon; many nieces and nephews; and special family friends Ann and Herb Dehli of Harpers Ferry and Wanda and Pat Schellsmidt of Waukon.

Pam is preceded in death by her parents, Mark Croyle, Marie Johnson and Norris Johnson; her sisters, Theresa Leikvold and Kathleen Saewert; her step-brother, Walter Johnson; three brothers-in-law, Lloyd Leikvold, Bill Slaughter and Willis Saewert; her sister-in-law, Beverly Kelly; her nephews, Mike Slaughter and John Kelly; and her niece, Wendy (Kelly) Willett.

Condolences may be sent to the family of Pam Croyle, 603 Second Street NW, Waukon, IA 52172.
