Culpepper & Merriweather Circus to be in Waukon this Thursday and Friday


The circus is coming to town ... The Culpepper & Merriweather Circus will be coming to Waukon this Thursday and Friday, August 12-13 for a pair of evening shows at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. each day. Thanks to the sponsorship of the Waukon Park & Recreation Department, Culpepper & Merriweather Circus, America’s Favorite Big Top Circus is coming to Waukon this Thursday and Friday, August 12-13. The big top circus tent will be located at the Waukon Softball Complex near the Allamakee County Fairgrounds at 835 Allamakee Street NW.

Now in its 36th edition, Culpepper & Merriweather (C&M) Circus has become internationally known for quality family entertainment. This authentic One-Ring, Big Top Circus has been featured on National Geographic’s Explorer TV series, Entertainment Tonight, A&E Special: Under the Big Top and most recently, On the Road with Circus Kids, a Nickelodeon special featured on the Nick News Program.

On circus day, between 9:30 and 10:00 a.m., everyone is invited to come watch the raising of the Big Top, then stay for the free tour. This presentation offers a unique face-to-face opportunity for families, schools, daycare centers and community members to meet and learn all about the Culpepper & Merriweather Circus.

Learn facts about the circus performers, the history of the show and the different species of animals in the circus family. This presentation will address topics such as hygiene, grooming and the veterinary care all of the circus animals receive.

The circus performances will take place at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. both Thursday and Friday, bringing the magic of the circus to life in each 90-minute show. This year’s line-up includes an All-Star group of performers and entertainers. See Miss Simone and her breathtaking single trapeze, Miss Paulina’s proud “Big & Little” prancing ponies, The Arlise Troupe on their wild and crazy unicycles, Logan Jimenez with his Cockatoo Review, Emilie Dean with her amazing feats of aerial strength, the Wheel of Destiny, and back by popular demand, the Russian Swing by The Perez Family.

Not to be forgetten are the favorite performing jungle cats, Soloman and Delilah, presented by Mr. Trey Key. All of the entertainment is accompanied by original music composed by Matt Margucci from Los Angeles, CA.

Tickets can be purchased in advance at Freedom Bank, Waukon State Bank and Fareway, all in Waukon. Each day of the circus, the ticket box office opens at 4 p.m., along with the pony rides, moonbounce, concessions and more that are all part of the circus experience.
