Shirley Heimer

Shirley A. (Hobbs) Heimer, age 85, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus September 21, 2021 at her home in Waukon. A celebration of life will be planned at a later date.

Shirley was born November 11, 1935 in Rose Creek, MN, the daughter of Mary and Delbert Hobbs. She attended Pacelli High School in Austin, MN, where she met Robert F. Heimer. They wed June 5, 1954. Through this union, she was blessed to have seven children: Cheryl (Steve) Kiesau of Champaign, IL, Scott Heimer of Gillette, WY, Lynette Corkery of Muscatine, Susan (Dean) Burroughs of Waukon, Mary (Joel) Anderson of Waukon, the late Martin (Dawn) Heimer of La Crescent, MN and Catherine (Jim) Gelo of Postville.

Shirley and Robert moved to Waukon in 1964 and owned and operated multiple businesses for over 50 years. Shirley was actively involved in her children’s lives as Scout leader and CCD Instructor. She managed her own business, The Bridal Shop, for several years. Of the things she was most proud of, her family was always first.

Shirley and Robert enjoyed many things in life together, but nothing more than ballroom dancing. There was rarely a Saturday night or Sunday afternoon that they couldn’t be found dancing to their hearts’ content. They also made time, every summer, for a trip “Up North” to Round Lake. Many families from Waukon joined the Heimer clan for a week of water, sun, fishing and fun.

Shirley actively participated in the Red Hat Society in more recent years with several ladies of the community, where dressing up in all things red and purple and going out for lunch and riding in parades were all the rage. Fun times were had by all.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Robert; her children, Cheryl, Scott, Lynette, Susan, Mary and Cathy; 24 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Joanne (Kenneth) Knutson of Austin, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Martin Heimer.

Shirley will make her final journey to her resting place in Waukon via the Gold Wing Express.
