King of Grace Lutheran Church to hold dedication service at new remodeled location ...

King of Grace Lutheran Church in Waukon will be hosting a dedication service for its new location that has been recently remodeled at 635 Ninth Street NW. Although delayed from its originally planned date due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the church has now set the dedication service for its new church building for this Sunday, October 3 at 3 p.m. The event will include an open house and meal to follow, and all are welcome to attend.

The church has been part of the Waukon community since its origination in 1851. It was originally part of the West Paint Creek congregation, but in 1886 it was reorganized as the West Paint Creek Synod Lutheran Church for doctrinal reasons. In the early 2000s, the decision was made to move into town for various reasons, one being the lack of running water in the church which was built in 1892 and the other being the confusion of names, as there were four churches in the same vicinity east of Waukon with “Paint Creek” in their name (East Paint Creek Synod Lutheran Church, West Paint Creek Synod Lutheran Church, Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church and Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church).

In 2005 the West Paint Creek Synod Lutheran Church established King of Grace Lutheran Church within the town of Waukon. For 14 years that congregation worshiped in a small building located at the northeast corner of the intersection of First Avenue NW and Second Street NW in Waukon before purchasing the current building almost two years ago, the former USDA Farm Service Agency office located at 635 Ninth Street NW.

As evident in the submitted transitional photos above from that former Farm Service Agency office (top photo), to the carpeted church soon after the building purchase in 2019 (middle photo), to the newly remodeled church being dedicated October 3 (bottom photo), the members of King of Grace Lutheran Church and contractors from the local community have done an incredible amount of work converting the Farm Service Agency building into a church. Vicar Abraham Faugstad of King of Grace Lutheran Church says that many people in the community have been curious about what has changed within the building, and he invites the community to take part in the October 3 dedication service.
