Fields of Faith 2021 in Waukon to be headlined by former MLB star Darryl Strawberry Wednesday

Area high school students to share their messages as well

Students from Waukon High School will join thousands of other youth and many others on athletic fields across the nation Wednesday, October 6 to share their Christian faith with fellow students and the general public for this year’s Fields of Faith event. The local event is now in its 10th year and will start at 6:30 p.m. at the Waukon High School football field Wednesday, October 6, or in the Waukon High School gym in the event of bad weather.

Featured speaker for this year’s Fields of Faith event in Waukon will be Major League Baseball (MLB) legend Darryl Strawberry, a four-time World Series Champion with the New York Mets and New York Yankees, and an eight-time MLB All-Star. Though extremely successful in his baseball career, Strawberry’s personal life was plagued with addictions, abuse, divorces, cancer, jail time and other issues. Having overcome addictions to drugs and alcohol, and surviving cancer on two different occasions, Strawberry says he found true redemption and restoration in Jesus Christ. He says his purpose and passion now is serving the Lord Jesus Christ by speaking a message of hope and helping others transform their lives through the power of the gospel as he travels the country.

“I was once very lost and tormented, but now I am found and free in Christ Jesus. I want everyone to experience the saving and transforming power of Jesus Christ,” Strawberry shares in his message of faith.

In addition to Strawberry, area high school students will also be sharing their own testimonies of faith in their young lives. Waukon High School senior Braden Hemann and sophomore Philip Clocksin, Decorah High School senior Grace Bachelder and MFL/MarMac High School senior Gabe McGeough will be this year’s student speakers. Waukon High School senior Nick Goltz will emcee the event. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on.
