Candidate Forum planned prior to upcoming City Election in Waukon

Public invited to meet the candidates for Mayor and City Council October 25

A forum featuring the City of Waukon’s Mayor and City Council candidates who will be on the upcoming November 2 election ballot is being planned for Monday, October 25 at 7 p.m. The forum will be sponsored by Waukon Economic Development and will take place in the Community Room of the Robey Memorial Library, located at 401 1st Avenue NW in Waukon.

The following candidates are slated to be present for the forum: Mayor candidate Pat Stone; At-Large Council candidates Nicholas Engrav and Kevin Johnson; Ward 1 Council Candidates Stephen Wiedner and Jerry Schoenthal; Ward 3 Council Candidate Arvid Hatlan; and At-Large to Fill a Vacancy Council Candidate Andy Sires.

Candidates will give a brief introduction of their backgrounds, qualifications and reasons for seeking office. Each will then respond to written questions from the audience, which will be asked by a moderator. There is no cost to attend and all Waukon residents are invited.

Absentee voting began Wednesday, October 13 at the Allamakee County Auditor’s office, which is open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Voters may still request an absentee ballot by going to the Auditor’s Office in the Allamakee County Courthouse at 110 Allamakee Street, Waukon. Monday, November 1 is the last day to vote absentee in person in the Auditor’s Office.

Anyone can still register to vote at the Auditor’s Office or at their polling site on Election Day by showing acceptable proof of identification and residence. Election Day is Tuesday, November 2 with polling places open from 7 a.m.-8 p.m.
