Elizabeth Ellen Ryan was born December 13, 1932 in Waukon, the daughter of John and Mary (O’Brien) Ryan. She was baptized and confirmed at St Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, where she remained a lifelong member. Elizabeth graduated from St. Patrick Catholic High School and went on to earn her nursing degree from St. Francis Nursing School in La Crosse, WI.

June 19, 1954, she married her high school sweetheart, William Hart, at St. Patrick Catholic Church. They had 51 years of marriage together.

For many years after their marriage, Elizabeth worked at home raising their four children. Later on, she returned to nursing for several years and eventually found her true calling working with intellectually challenged individuals at the Martin Luther Group Home in Waukon.

Elizabeth was a kind person to everyone she met. She enjoyed having coffee with friends, shopping with her daughters, having family come home to visit, watching her grandkids grow up, and ending the day with a scoop or two of strawberry ice cream with her cats by her side.

Survivors include her three children: Greg (Kathy) Hart of Sioux City, Diane (Larry) Wolfe of Charles City and Christine (Christopher) Cummings of Milwaukee, WI; five grandchildren, Abigail Weibel, Elizabeth Wolfe, Ryan Wolfe, Grace Cummings and Michael Cummings.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William, who died in 2005; a son, Daniel; two brothers, James Ryan and Brother Leo Ryan, CSV; and a son-in-law, Donald Gavle; along with a lot of close friends.

Casketbearers are Larry Wolfe, Christopher Cummings, Thomas Hart and Patrick Hart.
