Annual Lighted Holiday Parade scheduled for Monday in Waukon

Plans are being made for the Annual Lighted Holiday Parade to be held in downtown Waukon and scheduled for Monday, December 6, beginning at 6 p.m. The event coincides with extended Monday night business hours of some Waukon retailers, along with other events being planned that same evening.

The parade will begin with entries lining up around the East Elementary School playground before they travel Fifth Street NW south to West Main Street. Turning left onto West Main Street, the parade entries will venture to the stoplight intersection downtown, where they will then turn south on to Spring Avenue for one block before turning right on to First Avenue SW and heading west up to Sixth Street SW. The entries will then turn right and head north back to the East Elementary playground.

ENTRIES WANTED
Float entries are currently being accepted for the event from all local community groups, organizations, individuals and businesses. It is asked that parking for parade entrants be limited to the immediate area around East Elementary and that those involved in the parade have a pre-determined meeting site to avoid confusion and congestion at the initial parade gathering site. All entries must be lighted and cannot involve a live version of Santa Claus. It is asked that parade entries be lined up at 5:30 p.m. around the East Elementary playground.

Food donations to be given to the Allamakee County Food Shelf in Waukon will be accepted the evening of the parade in the parking lot area of the Waukon Chamber of Commerce/Area Development & Visitor Center, located at 101 West Main Street. For additional information about the lighted holiday parade, call Executive Director Leddia Tallman at the Waukon Chamber of Commerce office at 563-568-4110.
