Kee boys basketball team drops 56-55 home heart-breaker to NFV as senior Dalton Dibert reaches 1,000-point milestone

In what turned out to be its only competition of this past week, the Kee boys basketball team played host to North Fayette Valley Thursday, January 13 in a game rescheduled from December, aand senior Dalton Dibert made it worth the wait, as he poured in the 1,000th point of his high school basketball career in the game’s first quarter. Despite Dibert’s milestone achievement and a valiant comeback effort from a 34-19 halftime deficit, the Kee boys ended up having the game snatched away in the closing seconds for a 56-55 Hawk defeat.

1,000 POINTS
Dibert’s “grand” finale came nearly midway through the first quarter of the ballgame. Entering the game needing just four points to get there, the senior stepped one point closer with a free throw at the 5:59 mark of the opening frame and was then left alone one minute later at the top of the key to drain a three-point splash that pushed him to that 1,000-point milestone. Dibert becomes the sixth Kee boys basketball player to ever reach that career achievement, joining Ric Zarwell, Pat Heiderscheit, Gabe Schultz, Quinn Schultz, and, most recently, Danny Brennan during the 2017 season.

The Hawks were also scheduled to host Central Elkader Friday, January 14 but that game was postponed due to a winter storm. No make-up date has been announced as of yet.

Currently holding a 6-6 season record that includes a 4-3 mark in Upper Iowa Conference play, the Kee basketball boys were next scheduled to host Charles City Monday, January 17 and Postville Tuesday, January 18 before traveling to Turkey Valley Friday, January 21. The Hawks will then host MFL/MarMac Tuesday, January 25 before playing at North Fayette Valley Friday, January 28. They will then begin the month of February playing at Clayton Ridge Tuesday, February 1 before playing back-to-back nights hosting Turkey Valley Thursday, February 3 and then playing at South Winneshiek Friday, February 4.
