Waukon wrestling team wins first dual meets of season, places fourth at Northeast Iowa Conference Tournament

Waukon wrestling 220-pound senior Alex Goetzinger has a tight grip on his MFL/MarMac opponent on the way to a fall in just 11 seconds in the Indians’ final home dual event of the season Tuesday, January 25 against the Bulldogs, Postville, Clayton Ridge and Nashua-Plainfield. Goetzinger recorded three wins in the four dual meets the Indians wrestled at the event, including this quick fall, one other pin and a forfeit win. Junior Jakob Regan crowned NEIC individual champion at 126 pounds

The Waukon wrestling team wrapped up its regular season this past week with one final dual event and a tournament. That final dual event proved to the mat Tribe’s best of the season as the Indians won two of four dual meets wrestled that night, defeating both Postville, 48-27, and Clayton Ridge, 60-4, while also falling to MFL/MarMac, 60-24, and to Nashua-Plainfield, 78-3. The Indians also wrestled in the annual Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) Tournament Saturday, January 29 at New Hampton, finishing fourth in the final team standings and crowning their first NEIC Champion in over 15 seasons in junior 126-pounder Jakob Regan.

The Indians will now begin their postseason journey Saturday, February 5 at their Class 2A Sectional 9 Tournament at Crestwood High School in Cresco.
