Ronald Quanrude

Ronald D. Quanrude, 77, of Waukon died Friday, February 4, 2022 at VA Central Iowa Health Care in Des Moines. Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 8 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon with Fr. John Moser officiating. Burial with military honors was at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon.

Ronald Duane Quanrude was born December 5, 1944 in rural Allamakee County, the son of Harold and Ursula (Becker) Quanrude. He graduated from St. Patrick High School in Waukon in 1962. After graduating, Ron enlisted in the United States Air Force serving from 1963-1967. In 1964, Ron graduated from the technical course as a photographic repairman, which included photographic devices at Lowery AFB in Colorado.

He was assigned to a strategic air command unit at Davis - Monthan AFB in Arizona. His aerospace division supported the nation’s intercontinental missiles and jet bombers on constant watch; Ron had a great interest in astronomy. He graduated from the University of Iowa and took classes in Maui, HI to obtain a degree as an electrical engineer. He also earned a Master's degree at Boston University in Boston, MA.

Ron worked as a contract engineer throughout cities in Massachusetts, Illinois and at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids. After he retired, he moved back to the Waukon area to live in the Old Hanover Store home. For the last few years, he has lived in VA homes in Des Moines and Marshalltown. Ron enjoyed classical music and was an avid sports fan, following the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs. He was a generous man who helped his family out when he could.

Survivors include his siblings: Terry Quanrude of Waukon, Merle Jane Olsen of Maple Grove, MN, Eileen (Bob) Madison of Goldfield and Diane Quanrude of Waukon. He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, LaVern; and two brothers-in-law, Ken Olsen and Ronald Belz.

Casketbearers were Shawn O'Neill, Luke O’Neill, Chris Belz, Ray Burroughs, Dave Becker, Jim Adams, Tim Clark and John Blake.
