Reminder to Allamakee County property owners that second installment of taxes is due by Thursday

Allamakee County Treasurer Jennifer O’Neill would like to remind property owners the second installment of property taxes is due by Thursday, March 31. Payment of property taxes may be done in person at the Allamakee County Treasurer’s Office in the Allamakee County Courthouse at 110 Allamakee Street in Waukon, between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Taxpayers are reminded to bring their tax stubs with their payment to ensure proper credit. To avoid penalty on the second installment, payment must be received in the Treasurer’s Office by Thursday, March 31. Penalty will apply Friday, April 1.

E-check and credit card payments are also accepted online at www.iowatreasurers.org. Taxpayers will need their receipt number to pay by E-check. This can be found on their tax statement.

For taxpayer convenience, the Allamakee County Treasurer’s office accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover and debit cards for payments on taxes and motor vehicle registrations. There is a $2 fee for using a debit card.  The credit card companies set the fees charged for using their credit cards. It is the same fee as charged on the internet payment system.

A drop box is also located in the north parking lot of the courthouse for dropping off payments. As drivers exit the parking lot, they will find the box on their left.

Elderly Credit or Rent Reimbursements: For those who are at least 65 years of age as of December 31, 2021 or totally disabled and have a total household income of less than $24,354.00, or for those who are 70 years of age as of December 31, 2022 and their income is 250% below the federal poverty level, they might be eligible for additional tax credit on their home. The deadline to sign up for this is Wednesday, June 1 of this year.
