Senior Abby Wiemerslage makes school history as “Triple Threat” honoree by IHSMTAP

For her performance as “Barfee” in the Waukon High School fall musical “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee”, Waukon High School senior Abby Wiemerslage was invited to participate in the Iowa High School Musical Theatre “Triple Threat” Awards Program, which recognizes students who are considered “triple threats” in the realm of musical theatre, demonstrating excellent acting, dancing and vocal talents. Wiemerslage was personally invited to participate in the “Triple Threat” program after receiving an “Outstanding Achievement” Award for her performance as “William Barfee” in Waukon High

School’s production this past fall of “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” under the direction of Sarah J. Bieber and assistant director Sarah Hagen.

The Triple Threat Award program is intended to provide all participating students with high caliber learning and performance opportunities. Selected students will have the chance to receive individual coaching on a solo performance, to work with a New York City-based choreographer and music director, and the opportunity to collaborate with other high-achieving students from other schools on a medley that will be performed at the Des Moines Civic Center as part of the 2022 Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards Showcase scheduled for June 18.

In addition to being a “Triple Threat,” Wiemerslage has been invited to perform a live showing of her outstanding performance of “Magic Foot” from this past fall’s Waukon High School musical at the June 18 awards showcase.

“Waukon High School Musical Department has been a member of the Iowa High School Musical Theatre Association for two musical seasons,” Director Bieber explained. “Abby is the first student to be a ‘Triple Threat Award’ program recipient. Music Directors Ms. Bieber and Ms. Hagen are incredibly proud of Abby and the 2021 Cast of ‘The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee’.”
