COVID-19 booster available at Wednesday Immunization Clinics

Veterans Memorial Hospital Community and Home Care/Allamakee County Public Health are offering all doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, plus the additional booster dose, at their weekly immunization clinics each Wednesday throughout the month of June. These vaccinations are by appointment only and are held each Wednesday afternoon, with extended hours available the first and third Wednesdays of each month.

These vaccinations are available at the main entrance of the hospital in the Meditation Healing Center. To make an appointment for a COVID-19 vaccination, in June and beyond, call Veterans Memorial Hospital Community and Home Care at 563-568-5660.

Boosters are safe and people over the age of 50 can now get an additional booster four months after their prior dose to increase their protection further. This is especially important for those 65 and older and those 50 and older with underlying medical conditions that increase their risk for severe disease from COVID-19, as they are the most likely to benefit from receiving an additional booster dose at this time. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC), in collaboration with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and public health partners, will continue to evaluate the need for additional doses for all Americans.

Both Hartig Drug and Nightingale Pharmacy in Waukon have this booster dose of the vaccine as well as all other doses available for ages 12 and older. Parental/guardian consent is required. Be sure to call them to schedule an appointment.

Since Veterans Memorial Hospital is a health care facility, the CDC does require that masks are still worn by every patient and visitor to the hospital. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Be sure to wear a mask and bring an insurance card and vaccination card if coming for a COVID-19 vaccine.

For more information or to make an appointment for a vaccination of any kind, call Veterans Memorial Hospital Allamakee Public Health at 563-568-5660.
