Waukon softball team secures first win of the season, 3-2 over South Winneshiek, in four-game week shortened by weather

First varsity homerun is part of three-hit night ... Waukon softball sophomore third baseman Olivia Bossom is greeted with excitement by her teammates after her third-inning solo homerun in the Indians’ 14-9 home loss to Decorah Thursday, June 2. In addition to that first round-tripper of her young varsity career, Bossom also swatted out a pair of singles for three hits in four at-bats to score a team-best two runs and drive in a team-high three runs in the ballgame. For the second consecutive week, the Waukon softball team had its schedule shortened by Mother Nature, as the Indians had the Saturday, June 4 North Fayette Valley Tournament canceled by rainy weather. Prior to that washed out weekend, the diamond Tribe played four other games, putting one of those in the win column for the first Indian victory of the season. A Tuesday, May 31 Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) doubleheader at Crestwood resulted in losses of 6-0 and 8-5 before back-to-back home games ended up in a split, including a 14-9 loss to Decorah Thursday, June 2 followed by a 3-2 win column ice-breaker over South Winneshiek Friday, June 3.

The Lady Indians were next scheduled to host Central Elkader Monday, June 6 and play a varsity doubleheader at New Hampton Tuesday, June 7 before traveling to Charles City Friday, June 10 and playing in the Riceville Tournament Saturday, June 11. The softball Tribe will then host Waverly-Shell Rock for a varsity doubleheader Tuesday, June 14 before hosting Crestwood Friday, June 17.
