Kee baseball team’s final week of the regular season includes only UIC blemish with split at NFV followed by two non-conference wins

District tournament play scheduled to begin Tuesday at home vs. Dunkerton

A four-game schedule with just a single loss would be welcome by most high school baseball teams, but the lone defeat the Kee baseball team suffered during this final week of the regular season brought an end to a 20-game win streak for the Hawks and denied them an undefeated Upper Iowa Conference season. Still, Kee’s diamond dwellers wrapped up a regular season overall record of 34-3 and a 17-1 mark that secured sole possession of the Upper Iowa Conference season championship.

The baseball Hawks’ first loss in over three weeks’ time came right away in their first game of this past week, as they endured a split at North Fayette Valley Monday, June 27, falling in game one by a 4-3 result before bouncing back with a 12-0 win in the nightcap. Kee then finished its week with a pair of non-conference opponents, first defeating Wapsie Valley by a 6-1 count in a game played at Luther College in Decorah Tuesday, June 28 that was called after five innings due to rain. The Hawks then completed their regular season with a 5-4 win at home over New Hampton Friday, July 1 in a game scheduled just recently to fill a nearly week gap for Kee’s diamond dwellers due to a first-round postseason tournament bye.

The Hawks were next scheduled to open postseason tournament play, receiving a first-round bye before hosting their Class 1A District Tournament semifinals game Tuesday, July 5 against Dunkerton. Further details of that postseason trail are printed elsewhere in the Wednesday, July 6, 2022 print edition and e-edition Sports pages.
