Letter to the Editor by Lowell Engle

To the Editor:

Mr. Klees, in his letter to the editor of September 21, does not remember the economic history of the Trump presidency. Mr. Klees falsely claims that the MAGA Party handed out trillions of dollars to big companies and wealthy individuals.

What the tax break did was lower the corporate tax to a rate more competitive with the rest of the world, which made it profitable for companies to bring their businesses back to the U.S. It also gave millions of IRA and 401K holders, many of whom are in the middle and lower income class, a huge increase in income.

At the same time, it increased income for all of the lower and middle class workers, including blacks and women. It also created the greatest economic growth and lowest inflation rate since President Reagan - who would probably fit into that MAGA category, and he indeed made America great.

Mr. Klees is another who has been drinking the Kool-Aid put out by the most progressive party in Washington and promoted by the main stream media. I am sure Mr. Klees benefited greatly - as did most Americans - from the four years of the recent MAGA era.

As for Mr. Ward, he believes, without offering proof, that the same party is filled with insurrectionists. It is not the more conservative party that is taking away individual liberties guaranteed by the constitution.

Regarding the letter from Cate St. Clair, I am wondering who the “spokesman from NASA” is who told Rueters that “scientists believe that earth’s recent warming is caused by human activity”. I want to see the proof.

I admit I did not fully research the July 20 NASA report, and I am at fault there.

No one seems willing to address the issue that the solar panels being touted as the best answer for clean energy can reflect 75% of the heat back into the atmosphere. Can anyone answer how that affects our climate? Also, no one wants to address the fact that four of the largest polluters in the world, China, Russia, India and all of Africa, have not signed on to any of the proposals for carbon reduction being extolled by the Green New Deal.

The truth is that the most progressive party in Washington has made the cost of living higher for everyone in the country. They have also openly refused to enforce our immigration laws, which has allowed close to four million illegals to enter the country - that is more than the population of Iowa. That same open border policy has led to the death of approximately 80,000 individuals in the country this year from Fentanyl. It has also led to huge increases for the costs to Iowa farmers. Time for everyone to take notice of what is happening to our country and to who is responsible. It is not the MAGA people.
