During the 2023 Iowa Auctioneers Association Convention held in late January of this year in Des Moines, Jodi Sweeney-Egeland became the third generation of the Sweeney family to be inducted into the Iowa Auctioneers Association Hall of Fame. She joins her father, Jeff Sweeney, the 2001 inductee; and her grandfather, the late Ray E. Sweeney, the 1992 inductee.

Jodi grew up in the auction industry and started coming along to her family’s auction events to help run clerk sheets at age five. By the time she was 11 years old, she was promoted to clerking and performed that task through junior high and high school. Jodi went off to college at the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) in Cedar Falls in the fall of 2005 and decided to take a summer session at the World Wide College of Auctioneering in June of 2006.

While continuing to attend UNI, Jodi also continued working auctions on the weekends back home, helping with both clerking and auctioneering. In 2007, she became the first female to win the Iowa Auctioneers Association Bid Calling Competition. The following year, the Sweeney family traveled to Nashville, TN to watch Jodi compete in the Women’s Division of the International Auctioneers Championship (IAC), where she was crowned the 2008 IAC Champion, the first female from Iowa and one of the youngest competitors to win that title.

Jodi continued to be active in the Iowa Auctioneers Association, joining the Board of Directors and going on to serve as President of the Association in 2015. She graduated from UNI with degrees in Real Estate & Finance, and she continued her auction education by attending the three-year Certified Auctioneers Institute and the Benefit Auction Specialist Program.

Jodi returned back to her native Waukon area in 2009 and has since been working full-time with her parents, Jeff and Penny Sweeney, at Sweeney Auction Service. She even met her husband, Dustin, through the machinery auctions. Their children, Hudson and Audrey, make weekly trips to the auction center to see what’s new and what they can help with.

Jodi enjoys utilizing the auction method of marketing to efficiently and effectively help clients market their assets, whether those would be real estate, machinery or personal property, through live and online auctions. She shares that she is thankful for this industry and is very honored to have been named the 2023 Iowa Auctioneers Association Hall of Fame Inductee.
