Waukon girls track team finishes fifth at own Indian Relays, wins the MFL/MarMac Invitational; Cameron Johnson makes high jump school record all her own at 5’4”

New high jump school record ... Waukon girls track junior Cameron Johnson clears the high jump bar on her way to a new school record at the track Tribe’s own Indian Relays Tuesday, April 25. Johnson jumped 5’4” to finish with the same final height as New Hampton senior and University of Iowa recruit Carlee Rochford but finished second in the event on number of previous misses criteria. However, that 5’4” height gives Johnson the new school record in the event, as she had cleared 5’3-1/2” a few days earlier to tie that previous school record that had originally been set by 1977 Waukon High School graduate Renee (Weymiller) Van Horn during her senior season. The Waukon girls track team got both of its scheduled meets in this past week, with those meet results getting better as the week wore on. The lady track Tribe finished fifth at its own Indian Relays Tuesday, April 25 before zooming to the top of the MFL/MarMac Invitational field in Monona Thursday, April 27.

The Lady Indians were next scheduled to compete at Edgewood-Colesburg Monday, May 1 before competing in the Northeast Iowa Conference Track Meet in New Hampton Thursday, May 4. The Waukon girls will then prepare for their Class 2A State Qualifying scheduled for Thursday, May 11 at Monticello.
