The Veterans Memorial Hospital Medical Clinic-Postville announces a new provider line-up, ensuring there is a provider in the Postville Clinic each weekday.

Alex Berns, Nurse Practitioner, a Postville native, has begun seeing patients in Postville each Monday during regular clinic hours, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  He has been providing family medicine in the Waukon Clinic for the last two years and now has expanded that care to Postville.

Berns began his career at Veterans Memorial Hospital as a C.N.A., then continued as a full-time nurse after receiving his RN degree.  After branching out and gaining experience in Hospice, Emergency, the ICU in Rochester, MN, and general inpatient care, he returned to his home area two years ago to serve his community.

“I chose to become a family nurse practitioner knowing that I wanted to do more as a provider and benefit those near me,” he stated. “It is a privilege every day serving all the amazing families and individuals in our surrounding communities.”
Berns is available to care for youth and adults of all ages for immediate health concerns such as flu, COVID, sore throat, earache or blood pressure issues; for disease management such as diabetes, hypertension and digestive issues; and for annual wellness exams for well child, adult physicals, Medicare physicals and sports physicals.

Minji Na, Nurse Practitioner, began seeing patients in the Postville Clinic nearly a year ago, and will continue caring for the Postville Clinic each Wednesday. Nurse Midwife and Nurse Practitioner Katy Maker will continue to visit the Postville Clinic each and every Friday offering not only family medical care, but also maternity care for anyone expecting a baby. She then performs all of the deliveries at Veterans Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Thomas McMullan will now be seeing patients in the Postville Clinic Tuesdays and Thursdays. Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Tara Fink, also visits the Postville Clinic every other week to consult with patients.

The Veterans Memorial Hospital Postville Clinic opened Tuesday, July 5 of this year at 124 West Green Street, in the same location of the former Postville Medical Clinic in downtown Postville.  The clinic has a consistent schedule of Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The clinic remains open over the lunch hour, then closes from 1-2 p.m. each afternoon.

To make an appointment with any of these providers, call the Postville Clinic at 563-864-7221.
