Karen Gregory ...

For anyone who has ever wanted to turn back time and lose themselves in a book from the good ol’ days, Karen Gregory’s new book Journeys from the Driftless: Growing Up on an Iowa Farm can help them revisit their own childhood memories. Gregory’s memoir enables readers to embark on a nostalgic journey through the Heartland of the U.S. in the 1950s, ‘60s, and ‘70s.
“Most everyone will find a memory that will sweep him or her back in time to a treasured day, a moment they will never forget. Escape for a while with Journeys from the Driftless,” said the author.
Karen Gregory hails from northeast Iowa, a native of the rural Waterville area where she spent her formative years on the family farm that inspires her stories and was operated by her parents, Herbert and Katherine Schmidt. Leaving at the age of 18, she pursued a graphic design career that evolved into successful stints as an art director and writer at renowned advertising firms, including Ogilvy & Mather and GSD&M. After 30-plus years crafting award-winning campaigns, she and her husband and kitties retired to Tucson, AZ, where she continues to write for a local ad agency. Her engaging narratives are a testament to her roots, offering readers a nostalgic journey into simpler times.
Readers will follow Gregory as a child, a self-described timid girl with grand aspirations, who evolves into a full-fledged woman shaped by the events of her time. The book is meant to captivate readers, stir their emotions, and invite them to treasure the memories it rekindles.
With humor and poignancy, Journeys from the Driftless can draw readers into a riveting narrative that recounts the life of a young girl and her family on a farm in Iowa. Smile along with her idyllic memories, relish the vivid scenery, laugh out loud at hilarious childhood mischief, and grieve and heal with her family through the moving final chapters.
