Iowa Farmers: Sign Up Now for NRCS Conservation Programs Before October 10 Deadline
Iowa producers have a great opportunity this fall to apply for two of the most popular USDA conservation programs—the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) and the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP). The first-round cutoff date for applications is October 10, 2025. These programs are designed to support farmers, ranchers, and landowners in making improvements to their operations while protecting Iowa’s natural resources.

What is EQIP?
Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) offers financial and technical assistance to help farmers implement practices that improve soil, water, air, and wildlife habitat. Popular practices in Iowa include:
• Cover crops to build soil health
• No-till or reduced tillage to save fuel and protect soil
• High Tunnel Systems for extended growing seasons
• Livestock watering systems and fencing for better grazing management

EQIP helps reduce the upfront costs of conservation practices, making it easier to try new methods and see the long-term benefits.

What is CSP?
Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP) rewards farmers who are already practicing good conservation and are ready to take it to the next level. Through annual payments, CSP recognizes stewardship and supports enhancements like:
• Diverse crop rotations
• Timber management and stand improvements
• Pollinator and wildlife habitat improvements
• Infield management practices

CSP works well for operations that want to continue improving year after year and see measurable gains in productivity and sustainability.

Why Apply?
Both EQIP and CSP can:
• Lower input costs over time by improving efficiency
• Build resilience to weather extremes
• Improve soil health and water quality on your farm
• Provide consistent financial support while strengthening your operation for the future

How to Sign Up
The first-round cutoff date is October 10, 2025. Applications received by that date will be considered for funding in the first ranking period. Applications received after will be held for the next round.
