Bob and Cathy Zahn of Waukon are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married October 16, 1965 at St. George Catholic Church in Lansing. They have three children and nine grandchildren.

Open house celebration planned for Lawrence Benda’s retirement

An open house celebration will be held Sunday, November 1 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Waukon (19 First Avenue NE) in honor of Lawrence Benda’s retirement. Benda has worked for the Allamakee Community School District Transportation Department since 1972 and has also worked on the Veterans Memorial Hospital ambulance crew since 1989.

Link, Eberling to wed October 24

Brittany Link and Andrew Eberling, both of Waukon, are happy to announce their engagement and upcoming wedding. They plan to exchange vows October 24 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Waukon. A reception and dance will be held following the ceremony at the Waukon Banquet Center.
The bride-elect is the daughter of Paul and Betty Link of Waukon. She is a 2011 graduate of Waukon Senior High School and a 2014 graduate of Northeast Iowa Community College with a degree in Health Information Technology. She is currently employed as a Cancer Registrar at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, WI.
The groom-elect is the son of Randy Eberling of Marshall, MN and Susan Gavle of Waukon. He is a 2005 graduate of Waukon Senior High School and a 2007 graduate of Northeast Iowa Community College with a degree in Diesel Mechanics.  He is currently employed as a Bus Technician for the Allamakee Community School District.

The bride-elect is the daughter of Lorraine and Linda Kalke of Decorah. She is currently employed as an assistant credit manager at the Reinhart Food Service Corporate office in La Crosse, WI.
The groom-elect is the son of Walter and Peggy Martin of Waukon. He is currently employed as the Production Manager at Lansing Housing Products in Lansing.

Glenn and Charlotte Monroe to celebrate 50th anniversary

Glenn and Charlotte (Luster) Monroe were married October 16, 1965 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Harpers Ferry. They plan to celebrate the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary over the weekend of October 16 with their children and families in La Crosse, WI, where they began their life together.
Their children include Michelle (Cory) Tryggestad, Jacqueline (Mark) Fredrickson, Nickalas (Brenda) Monroe, Justin (Leah) Monroe, and Audra (fiance Stephen Noe) Monroe. Their grandchildren and great-grandchildren include Amanda (Ryan) Nelson - Lily, Poppy and Bryony; Aric (Samantha) Tryggestad - Kaylie, Ellie, Cooper and Hank; Drew and Brett Frederickson; Morgan, Courtney and Avery Monroe; and Evalyn, Paige and Alexis Monroe.

Lansing High School’s Class of 1960 gathers for 55-year reunion

Members of Lansing High School’s Class of 1960 celebrated their 55-year reunion July 24 with a cruise on the Mississippi Explorer followed by dinner at The Old Rossville Store that evening. Those attending were: (front row, left to right) John Wood, Fred Hogan, Mike Callahan, Lyle Peters, Dave Munchoff, Glen Reed and George Stahl; (back row, left to right) Shirley (Lund) Manning, Helen (Cole) Christianson, Phyllis (Beck) Verdon, Corrine (Schultz) Burke, Kay (Reed) Christensen, Jean (Wurtzel) Gruber and Patsy (Breeser) Gavin. Unable to attend was Janet (Schulze) Jarchow. Deceased members are Tom Mohn and Jerry Hanley. Sadly, Shirley Manning passed away in early September. Her classmates were happy she was at the reunion.
