Birth announcement: Gaherty

Jodi and Jesse Gaherty of Cedar Falls announce the birth of their daughter, Jayln Mary Jean Gaherty, May 22, 2015 at Covenant Hospital in Waterloo. She weighed 9 lbs., 8 ozs. and measured 22 inches in length at the time of her birth. She joins a brother, Jayce (6), and a sister, Jayah (2-1/2).
Grandparents are Don and Linda Kruse of Waukon and Terry and the late Sharon Gaherty of Dubuque. Great-grandmother is Donna Kruse of Bristow.

Jake and Jessica Wilke of Monona announce the birth of their daughter, Charlotte Rose Wilke, June 9, 2015 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. She weighed 8 lbs., 1 oz. and measured 21 inches in length at the time of her birth.

Jackson, Sandvick exchange vows during April 11 ceremony

Amber Jackson of Waukon and Andrew Sandvick of Norwalk, OH were joined in marriage April 11, 2015 by Pastor Eric Partin at the Holley By The Sea Beach House in Navarre, FL.
The bride is the daughter of Dean and Mary Jackson of Waukon. She is a 2004 graduate of Waukon Senior High School and a 2008 graduate of Buena Vista University. She is currently employed as a business analyst for H2 Performance Consulting Corp.
The groom is the son of Jerry and Karen Sandvick of Navarre, FL and Mollie and John Wetherill of Norwalk, OH. He is a 2000 graduate of Norwalk High School and is currently employed by Publix Super Markets.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a floor-length white A-line chiffon halter dress with a lace-up back and crossed straps. She carried a hand-made bouquet of white roses, green poms, and purple carnations and alstroemerias.

Arden and Joyce Hanson to celebrate 60th anniversary

Arden and Joyce Hanson of Waukon will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary June 28. Arden Hanson and Joyce Snitker were married June 28, 1955 at Salem Reform Church, rural Waukon.
The couple has six children, Karen (Bill) Regan, Bev (Brad) Krambeer, Steve (Pat) Hanson, David (Barb) Hanson, Debra (Bart) Lodge and Lisa (Jeff) Kelm. They have ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

June 27 open house will honor Hazel Sorum Larsgaard’s 100th birthday

Hazel Sorum Larsgaard of Fairview, SD will be celebrating her 100th birthday  June 25. An open house will be held Saturday, June 27 from 2-4 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Fairview.  This celebration of her centennial birthday will be hosted by her family.
The governor of South Dakota has also proclaimed June 25, 2015 as Hazel Larsgaard Day in the state of South Dakota.
Hazel’s great-grandparents were early settlers of the Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church area in Allamakee County. She and her late husband, Roy Larsgaard, enjoyed many visits over the years with her Sorum relatives in the Waukon-Decorah area.

Bakewell, Darling to wed June 20

Brittany Bakewell of New Albin and Stephen Darling of Lansing announce their engagement and upcoming wedding. They plan to exchange vows June 20 at the Bechtel Farm near Lansing. A reception will be held at the New Albin Community Center following the ceremony.
The bride-elect is the daughter of Roger and Toni Bakewell of New Albin and Lenny Baxter of Waterloo. She is a recent graduate of the nursing program at Winona State University and is currently employed as a respite care provider. She plans to work as a nurse after completing her State Board exams.
The groom-elect is the son of Jeff and Judi Darling of Lansing. He served in the  U.S. Air Force for four years and is currently employed as a union carpenter for CD Smith.

Meder, Gavin to wed June 27

Patricia and Wesley Kinley of Harpers Ferry announce the engagement of their daughter, Sandra Meder of Waukon, to Joseph Gavin of Waukon, son of Larry and Chris Gavin of Waukon. The couple plans to exchange vows Saturday, June 27 at 2 p.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon. A reception and dance will be held at the Waukon Banquet Center at 5:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
The bride-elect is a 2011 graduate of Waukon Senior High School and a 2015 graduate of Upper Iowa University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Human Services. She plans to attend graduate school at Loras College to study Clinical and Mental Health Counseling. She is currently employed as an assistant manager at Hardee’s in Waukon.
The groom-elect is a 2009 graduate of Waukon Senior High School. He is currently studying Computer Technology and Programming at  Northeast Iowa Community College and working at Swiss Valley in Luana.
