Edna Elsheimer

Edna A. Elsheimer, 89, of New Albin passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at her home. Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 18 at the Evangelical Church of Peace, Crooked Creek Township, rural Freeburg, MN. Rev. William J. Reese officiated. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Edna was born April 12, 1927 in Crooked Creek Township to William and Gertrude (Arndt) Neumann. October 12, 1945, Edna married Walter Elsheimer at Peace Church in Crooked Creek. Together they farmed in Crooked Creek Township all of their lives.

Edna had a love for raising chickens and she delivered the eggs to many people in the surrounding areas; she especially enjoyed the visits she had with people while making deliveries. Edna and Walter enjoyed 62 years of marriage before Walter's passing June 15, 2008.

LaVerne Sorum

LaVerne Sorum, 90, of Waukon died Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 18 at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, with Pastor Ronald Pederson officiating. Burial was at East Paint Creek Synod Cemetery, rural Waterville.

Moris LaVerne Sorum was born April 22, 1926 in Waukon, the son of Moris A. and Lulla G. (Gilbertson) Sorum. He was baptized May 23, 1926 and later confirmed November 16, 1941. LaVerne attended Bakkum School Center #4 through the eighth grade. September 11, 1964, he married Linda Lou Beardmore at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

Conrad Baughman

Conrad L. Baughman, age 72, of Harpers Ferry passed away Sunday, October 9, 2016 at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, just 20 days following the death of his wife, Sandra. A Celebration of Conrad’s Life will be held Friday, October 14 where his family will be greeting friends from 2-4 p.m. with a eulogy to follow at the Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien, WI. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.

Conrad was born February 3, 1944 in San Jose, CA, the son of Isaac and Reba (Swisher) Baughman. He married Sandra Burchfield September 2, 1972. She preceded him in death September 19 of this year.

Ruby Pohlman

Ruby G. Pohlman, 92, of Caledonia, MN passed away Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Caledonia Care and Rehab. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Saturday, October 15 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Caledonia, MN. Rev. Steven E. Meyer will officiate. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the church.

Ruby was born October 4, 1924 in Houston County, MN to Roy L. and Lora (Haar) Meiners. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Luke’s United Church of Christ in Eitzen, MN. She graduated from Caledonia High School and attended Waukon Junior College in Waukon. Ruby taught rural schools in Iowa and Minnesota.

James Moe

James G. Moe, 82, of Waukon died Sunday, October 9, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 17 at 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon, with Rev. Lynn Groe officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon.

Friends may call Sunday, October 16 from 3-6 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Winneshiek Medical Center Hospice, the radio ministry of St. Peter’s Christian Community Church of New Albin or the radio ministry of St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon.

James George Moe, son of Julian Melvin Moe and Gladys Ilene (Gilbertson) Moe, was born November 18, 1933 on his grandparents’ farm in Center Township in Allamakee County. He was baptized at West Synod Lutheran Church and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waukon, where he later served as a trustee, deacon and on the church's Building Committee.

Helen Gettman

Helen Adel Gettman, 76, of Luana died Thursday, October 6, 2016 at Gundersen Health in La Crosse, WI. Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, October 16 at the Waukon Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses. Speaker Tom Hollmann will officiate at the service.

Helen was born August 5, 1940 at Monona. She was the daughter of Hermie and Effie (Fish) Sherbonda. Helen graduated from Monona High School with the Class of 1958.
September 13, 1958, Helen was united in marriage to Floyd Gettman in Monona. Helen worked as a CNA for Clayton County Home Health Care and Finley Hospital in Dubuque.

She is survived by her husband, Floyd, of Luana; and two sisters, Mary Clarke of Mocksville, NC and Ruth Allen of Huntsville, NC. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Donald Sherbonda.

The Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Monona is assisting the family with arrangements.

Gordon Marti

Gordon J. Marti, 84, of Waukon died Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 12 at 11 a.m. at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waukon, with Pastor Ken Kimball officiating. Burial with military honors will be at the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, October 11 at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.

Gordon Jacob Marti was born January 23, 1932 in Waukon to Philip and Inga (Sorum) Marti. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church in Waukon and attended Makee and Jefferson country schools. From 1955-57, Gordon served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany.

Kristine A. Sweeney, 62, of Waukon died Friday, October 7, 2016 at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, WI. Memorial services will be held Thursday, October 13 at 11 a.m. at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon, with Pastor Samantha Houser  officiating. Burial of cremains will be at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, October 12 at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.

Kristine Ann Sweeney was born December 3, 1953 in Waukon, the daughter of Robert L. and Maureen (Smith) Stock. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon. Kris graduated from Waukon High School in 1972 and attended NICC in Calmar for cosmetology.

Dorothy Gress

Dorothy A. Gress, 79, of Waukon died Friday, October 7, 2016 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 11 at First Presbyterian Church in Waukon, with Pastor Grant VanderVelden officiating. Burial was at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon.

Dorothy Ann Gress was born May 29, 1937 in rural Waukon, the daughter of Oscar and Selma (Wilke) Johnson. She attended rural country schools in Allamakee County. March 6, 1971, she married Gary Gress at First Presbyterian Church in Waukon. Dorothy did daycare for several years and worked at Northern Engraving for 41 years before retiring in 2009.

James Walsh

James M. Walsh, 83, of Waukon died Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Monday, October 10 at First Baptist Church in Waukon, with Pastor Duane Smith officiating. Burial was at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon.

James Michael Walsh was born January 24, 1933 in rural Harpers Ferry, the son of Stephen and Marjorie (Molitor) Walsh. He attended Figgie country school in Linton Township, rural Monona. From 1952-1955 he served in the National Guard Company D 133rd Infantry as a sergeant grade E-5.

July 15, 1950, he married Beverly Joan Schlitter at St. John's Lutheran parsonage in Monona. Jim did carpentry work for Bob Stilwell, farmed from 1957-1968 in the Ion area and worked at Waukon Implement before he went to work for Allamakee County as the maintenance superintendent until he retired in 1998.
